ABRAWAN (Indian term)

  • 1 Abrawan

A slightly inferior quality of "Dacca Muslin", but is now practically extinct. The fabric owes its name (lit. "running water") to its texture, which is believed to have been so fine as to render the material invisible if immersed in flowing water. Hand woven (sec also Sangati, Shabnam and Sharbati), made 36-in. X 20 yards and weighing 9 to 111/2-oz. per piece. In 1866 a piece cost 120 s.
